Running pace calculator: pace, time and distance
Enter any two of distance, time and pace and this calculator solves the third. Results appear in minutes per mile and per kilometer, with speed in mph and km/h, and a split table you can use for race day.

How to use it
It uses the same pace arithmetic as our training-plan engine, so a pace you work out here matches the pace in a plan.
- Choose what to solve for: pace, finish time or distance.
- Pick a race distance or enter your own, in miles or kilometers.
- Enter your time (like 27:45 or 1:52:30) or your pace (like 8:56).
Limits you should know
- This is arithmetic, not a prediction. It assumes you hold the same pace the whole way, which hills, heat and fatigue will change.
- Paces faster than 2:30 per mile or slower than 60:00 per mile trigger a warning, because they are probably typing slips.
- Splits are even splits. They are a reference, not a race strategy.
Questions about this tool
How do I calculate pace per mile?
Divide your total time by the distance in miles. A 27:45 5K is 1,665 seconds over 3.107 miles, which is about 8:56 per mile.
Can I use kilometers?
Yes. Switch the distance unit and the pace unit independently. Results always show both.
Why is my watch pace different?
Watches measure distance with GPS, which can read slightly long or short. Race courses are measured separately.
From a number to a plan
Training plans use these same calculations. Six questions give you a week-by-week calendar from the miles you run now.
